How do I find engine model no for my BMW 318?

Help! My BMW needs a new engine as a piston apparently punched through the base of the engine. I've been looking around for a second-hand one but am getting confused by engine model nos. My car is a V reg (1999) 318i SE E36 saloon shape. I can't work out if my engine is M44 or M43 (or something else!). Also would a different engine model fit /work anyway?|||The engine is an M43 (based on the info supplied). Enter the last 7 digits of your VIN number on www.realoem.com and it will give the engine number of the car.

Any E36 engine will fit your car (even the M3 and M3 Evo's) but you will need to make a number of additional alterations, depending on the engine, including (but not limited to): -

Gearbox

Prop-shaft

Differential

Will a Harmon kardon amplifier from a 2001 BMW 330ci work with the system of a 2001 BMW 325i?

The Harmon Kardon amplifier in my 2001 BMW 325i shorted out and I don't want to spend the $1,000 at the dealer to replace it. I found a used Harmon Kardon amplifier from a 2001 BMW 330ci but am not sure it will work with my system. Any thoughts?|||The amplifier should be the same or similar. As far as connectivity there should be no issues, an amp is an amp. (You can hook up any amp to a deck and speakers). One issue could be though if the amp is the same size physically and it won't fit in the basket that BMW provided. (Could have changed from one year to the next, doubtful though) I am sure you can get around that easily enough by placing it elsewhere.

Depending how much you are spending, you might look into just buying an after market amp to save money and perhaps make your car sound better. Amplifiers today are more efficient and better sounding in general than ones made 7 or 8 years ago (obviously comparing the same quality amps). You can go to Best Buy or Circuit City and get some advice about what to install in your car. You can also go to a local audio shop, but check around for reputation first. (CC and BB have good return policies and can handle a simple amp install). The other thing I was thinking if BMW is going to install it they will charge mega bucks($90 an hour), so for $100 at Best Buy or Circuit City they will install an amp unless you know someone personally that will do a reliable job cheaper. Just my thoughts, I am sure others will also have some good ideas too.|||i dont think so..........

How can I get the radio code for my BMW without having to pay the dealers?

I replaced my battery without knowing that it'll reset the radio. I don't have the manual or anything that came along with the car, but I do have the registration papers for the car. I tried bringing it to a BMW dealership but they're charging me $150 for the code. Thanks in advance for helping out.

-Kevin|||pull the radio go to the dealer with the serial number and your license and registration and they will run in through the computer and retrieve it for you. N/C|||Check inside the glove compartment - sometimes people stick the code number in there (particularly if the number was on a gummed label - don't know if BMW does it like that).|||Try another dealer. $150 is absurd. I've gotten radio codes twice and not been charged for it. One our 318 they did have to pull the radio out to get the code. Took a mechanic about 5 minutes. I was prepared to hand over $50 but they didn't charge me.

You could also try at the parts counter. Be prepared to pull the radio and carry it back there. Most older BMWs need a special 5-sided screwdriver to remove the security screws holding the radio in. Be sure you take proof of ownership with you.

Be sure to write down that code!|||Resetting radio after power is removed or display shows "CODE"

• If the correct code is not entered in the three successive tries, the radio will not accept entry until the radio has been ON for one hour. IMPORTANT: When entering 5-digit code number, be sure to complete sequence number of that 5-digit code. For example: Code No. sequence is 12345 and you mistakenly enter 125 instead of 123, continue the code number sequence of 45 to complete that entry. The radio will not operate and "CODE" will reappear in the display. Re-enter the correct number sequence of 12345 and operation of the radio will continue. NOTE: If an audible beep is heard while entering the 5-digit code, STOP immediately. Begin entering the code again, starting with the first number of the 5-digit code.

• Another solution from Steven V. The local BMW dealer told me that if I turn the ignition key to the number two position and leave all the dash lights on then disconnect the battery for fifteen minutes to a half hour. The system will re-program itself when the battery is connected. It does not say that in the manual or CD rom but it apparently worked fine. Of course the radio had to be recoded again.|||search on google. What year model type of radio head standard?|||that $150 may be the cost of removing the radio to see the serial number.

if you take it out yourself and bring it to the dealer i'm sure they'll tell you free of charge.

How much do BMW repairs usually cost, and how long do they last, how reliable are they?

I am looking at getting a 2000 323i BMW and was wondering how much the repairs would be, also how many miles would it last. i need a car that would last at least another 4 years will minimal repair costs.|||I agree with snoiwe on all of these problems and would like to add that there are a few more things you need to worry about on the newer models mostly electrical in nature. The consumer database shows many owners reporting probelms with the central computer module which is alays needing upgrades or replacement. This module controls just about everything electrical in the vehicle and when it fails, good bye transportation. Interestingly, statistically speaking, the 1999 models and older where more reliable than the newer models today. The most reliable were the 1980-1988 models but I doubt you want to go that old.

However, I would like to point out that the reason BMW swtiched to the Hydramatic transmssions from GM was because they were 100% reliable whereas the trans they used before were alwasy breaking down. As you can see, Wetsombereo does not know whay he/she is talking about- ZF is made by ZF Friedrichshafen AG, a German company which has had many problems. BMW has had no problems with the GM transmission.

I would advise you to avoid this vehicle and go with something more reliable. The 2003 Lexus IS300 is a great soild car. It drives excellent and is of course very reliable. Its about the same size. The only downside is some find the styling to be 'boy racer' compared to more classy models.

Good Luck|||I like the E46 body style. But unfortunately, the 1999/2000 model year cars are bad.

Automatic transmissions for many E46 models (not just 99/2000) have been known to fail due to a defective component inside their ZF5HP19 steptronic transmissions. (see photos: http://www.noreverse.org/docs/trannyauto… ). When this happens, owners will completely lose their reverse gear. BMW will only help if you write in (and FEDEX in a GOOD letter), and even so, they usually only pay 50% - so you're still stuck with paying some $3k. That happened to me 3 years ago, when the car had just 100k miles.

Here's the link:

http://www.noreverse.org/

1999/2000 cars also suffer from a serious defect in the rear subframe. The sheet metal where the subframe mounts on to will fatigue over time causing the whole subframe mount to rip out from the car body itself! I'm currently suffering from this issue now and actually am going to the dealer who arranged a rep from BMW USA to look at it tomorrow. This repair will cost $4k - $7k depending how severe the damage is.

An internet forum where close to 200 members have the same problem. http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.…

My advice, E46 cars are nice, but the early cars all have serious defects. Go for only 2001 or newer cars. Also, be aware that ALL E46 cars suffer from front strut tower "mushrooming" problem, where the 3 strut bolts start pointing AWAY from each other instead of straight up as the whole tower structure weakens and bulge up over time. If a strut tower bar or at least a set of strut tower reinforcement plates (such as this one http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html/det… ) was installed beforehand, it will solve this problem.

While this may cause minor alignment problems, it could also be the beginning of structural cracks in the corner support near the strut tower.

Major repairs:

Transmission failed at 100k. $3k partial payment.

Front control arm (pair) @ around 125k miles. (BMW quote $2,000 - I bought an upgraded part from bavauto.com, spent an afternoon with a buddy - total cost: $400 plus a 6-pack). The ball joint was the culprit. But BMWs do not have replaceable ball joints, so you need to change out the whole control arm and bushings.

Sensor failed, tripped the check engine light @ around 90k miles - $180

Rear shock mount torn. I changed out the whole set of rear shocks. $230. BMW will probably charge $800

Thermostat failed, expansion tank cracked. $250

ABS/DSC controller malfunction. BMW says the part ALONE is $1k. (happening now)... probably will look at replacing it with a cheaper used part. So now I have NO ABS or DSC.

I change my own oil, oil/air/cabin/fuel filters, spark plugs, belts, brakes, battery, all fluids (tranny, diff, brake, power steering, coolant)... if I didn't, I'm sure I'd be a lot poorer with BMW labor rates going at $110/hr.|||the maintance on it will cost you a bit but the car will last a very long time if you treat it right. with proper care and maintance you should have a problem getting 150+ miles out of it without issue...|||If you have to ask, you can't afford it!

Keep in mind an oil change is a lot more than what you'd expect.|||They are very dependable and you can usually get 2-300000 miles out of them but when they start to have problems get rid of it because it will cost you a ridiculous amount of money to keep it going.Parts are very expensive and only a small handful of repair shops will touch it and the ones that will are usually very expensive. If the cars has decent miles on it it will definitely last 4 years or more before you have to put much money into it besides your normal maintenance. But just like anything it depends on how its cared for.GOOD LUCK!|||you know what BMW stands for?

Bring Money With!

having said that, i own 2 and will never part with them|||BMW repairs are not any more expensive than fixing a Honda. Honda labor and parts are as expensive if not more. The motor in the car you are looking at is solid. Its been pretty much the same motor in the 3 series for years. The transmission IS a ZF....so its made by GM, BUT this isn't a bad thing. The ZF trannies are capable of taking more abuse. BMW put ZF trannies in the 5 Series in 1992 and it was definately better than the old Gertag units.

I have owned 7 BMW's now, 4 out of the 7 went over 300,000 miles. I would call that long lasting.

Also, out of the 7 I have owned, the only car that ever left me stranded was because of a head gasket, and thats a pretty normal problem to have after 250,000 miles, so I would call that reliable.

If you are buying a 323i, don't buy one with more than 100k on it, and it will last much longer than 4 years. (and still be worth something afterwards too which we can't say for some of our asian car maker friends. Resale kicks *** on BMWs)

Snowie has some great info up there for you...he knows his stuff.

Snowie: The ABS/DSC box can be fixed by a Bosch certified tech. (the hard part is finding one) Its also not just a problem on the 3's. The E39 5's had this same problem. I got mine from a wrecker here in Portland for $600. I am sure the sale could be duplicated for the same price. PM me if you want the phone number.|||yes the car will last another 4 years no problem, but NOT with minimal repair costs.

I have a 2002 BMW 325i that i purchased used 2 years ago with 59k miles on it. today the car has 96k miles on it. during the 2 years and 37k miles I have put about $4,000 in maintainence. That's just normal wear and tear (brakes, oil changes, a tune up, etc.)

if you have to question whether you can afford the repairs or not, then the car is not for you. BMW's cost a lot to maintain and it takes a different type of person to appreciate the car and fork over the money to fix it, without getting upset.

I'm very passionate about my BMW and will not drive anything but a BMW, and I dont mind forking over my money to keep it running like the day it was first sold :)|||BMWs are very lousy. 1st off GM has a contract with the 3 series. What is the best way for me to purchase bmw parts here in america?

I own a american spec. BMW 325i 2002, but I want to purchase the parts cheaper than what the auto shops are charging.|||FWIW, in order to preserve brand ideals, dealerships are made to sell high. It's not unusual - many high end brands distinguish their clientele using price mechanisms. GOOD for BMW - and car enthusiasts - that their cars can perform better than garden variety brands. BAD, because money does not guarantee a better driver - and these cars are not meant for fuddy duddies.

ANYWAY the answer is, look for niche workshops, run by ex-dealership mechanics. You should be able to find a fair price from these guys. Also, because their reputation depends on their overall quality of service, they should do what it takes to maintain their reputation.

For bargain basement prices - there are 2 choices - at one's own risk. Online stores (ebay) and salvage yards.

Hope this helps.|||go to a junk yard that has bmw parts|||I used to have a '99 BMW 328, and the only way I knew to get part installed was to actually go to a dealership. If I went somewhere else they could never guarantee their work. To just get the parts I used either the dealership or online websites such as ebay. I would recommend asking around at some BMW forums. Try Bimmerforums.com|||Best way would be the dealer, even though it is expensive, it is better than taking the risk of buying parts online or going to a salvage yard. I hadn't had problems with it in the past, but I opened it and it will not close. I was told there is a manual way to close it where the switch is. Can someone give me a clue on what to do, and If I can close the sunroof manually?|||Remove the sliding roof motor cover (where the switch is as you have mentioned). Look at the round area where the motor inserts into and you will find a small hole where an allen wrench can be used to turn the gears and either open or close the sunroof glass. How do you silence the Keyless Entry for 1998 BMW 740 iL?

I just bought a '98 BMW 740 iL and I am wondering if it's possible to silence the keyless entry. Every time I lock/unlock the car, it has a pretty obnoxious sound. Any help would be much appreciated.|||If it has a BMW alarm and remote, you can usually turn on / turn off the "chirp" by holding down both buttons on the remote at the same time for a couple of seconds. What are the cons of buying an E34 BMW towards buying an E36?

Im looking for my first car and i definitly want to buy a BMW. The only problem i have is that i do not know which one i want. I can find tons of e34s with 140000 plus miles but the e36s are very hard to find with under 140000 miles. Ive been watching videos from auto cross and street racing for both and they seem to be similar, is there any con of getting the bigger sedan than the coupe thanks|||Firstly buying a bmw with 140000 mile on the clock need not be a problem providing it has full service history i used to work on a e34 520 with 540000 miles on the clock. Secondly if your looking for a e36 far different from a e34 smaller better handling but not quite as comfortable beware of 2.3 and 2.8 models as they suffered liner problems causing high oil consumption a well known problem which was rectified by bmw by taking the old engine out and replacing it under warranty but be aware there were lots that got away as bmw never notified customers only looked into it when customer mentioned high oil consumption. Hope this helps you

What exactly is covered in bmw warranties?

I just bought this 2005 BMW 330ci with the zhp package 5 days ago, while i was driving today i heard this noise coming from my engine underneath the valve cover. This car still has the factory 4 year 50k mile warranty and its also a certified pre owned bmw so basically i have a warranty until jan 28th 2011 or 100k miles. Now is every component in the engine covered in this warranty?|||Often dealers like to say something like "this is normal with this type of engine" so that they won't have to do the work. But if the noise is noticeable with the hood closed or sounds very abnormal, then you have every right to get it fixed. The warranty fully covers any problems with the engine short of neglect and user error.

I have heard of rare cases where ZHP owners had problems with the camshafts. They are unique to the car ZHP package and are what give the car it's extra 10 horsepower over the normal BMW 3-series.

But as a whole, the car is regarded as one of the best handling and performing 3-series ever, short of the M3 line. Congrats on the new car.|||yes everything should be covered, especially since you still have the original warranty. I asked the dealer because i'm interested in buying the same car.

How can i start my bmw when the alarm keeps going off?

I just had an engine replaced in my 1995 bmw 740il, and every time we stick the key in and try to turn it on, the alarm system goes off. is there like buttons on the key that i should push or something? where could i get this info because the bmw dealer in my state will not release that info because they feel they would "lose business" without me bringing it in i.e. tow it in|||I assume you are saying that the engine does not start or crank and that when you try to do so, the alarm goes off...

Did the replacement engine come with its own DME (engine computer)

and EWS (anti-theft) module? If it did and you are using the key for the removed engine then it will not work for the key has a different rolling code. The key for the new DME/EWS set must be very near where you insert the old key to start the motor for its code to be read. Or if you only put in one of them like the DME, then it will not work with the other EWS (or vice versa).

The DME/EWS/key should all match up otherwise it is a no go.

And even if it did match, sometimes the DME and EWS needs to be

synchronized, and for this you need BMW's programming equipment.

There are no ifs and buts about this.|||Turn key on, turn off valet switch.|||Take it back to the people who put the engine in have them tow it and pay the bill. Don't get yourself all worked up over this its not your problem.

Is there a way to put the power window back up on my 1986 BMW 528e without paying a mechanic?

I have a 1986 BMW 528e. Both power windows in the back were lowered all the way down and one came back up half way but the other is barely visible, meaning it's still almost all the way lowered. Is there a way to put both back up without paying a mechanic?|||since both rear windows quit I would check to see that a wire didn't fall off your master window switch in the drivers door.|||Nope.. the door panel will need to come off and unless you can take it apart then take it to the mechanic.|||It991 gave you the quick answer to that, and he's correct..

Unless you are able to remove your door panels and have someone assist you in getting the window up, it can be a bit difficult. This is especially true if you have gear traction motors, they tend to lock in position when they are not powered.

Once you get them up, you will probably have to have something prop the window mechanism to keep it in place until you find out why the windows are not operating properly..|||yeah im pretty sure a mechanic doesnt need any special tools if thats what you mean by can you do it, but knowledge is the best tool so if you dont know how you dont know how

best takin it to a mechnic so you dont mess anything else up

The interview is supposed to be technical and behavioral, anybody know what they look for at BMW factory in SC?|||Go to the web and in Bing or Google put in "BMW factory interviewing questions"

This will get you a good idea of what they ask.|||Wherever you have a job interview, the basics will always be asked like..

1. Tell me about yourself.

Keep the answer job or skill related.

2. Why did you leave your last job?

Never refer to a major problem with management or say undesirable things about your supervisors, co-workers or the organization. Keep smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an opportunity, or a chance to do something better.

3. What is your weakness?

Always try to give a positive answer. For example, "It takes me a long time to get ready in the morning, so I set my alarm two hours ahead of my time in for work."

4. What are your strengths?

Sell yourself. Say how you can be a desirable employee for the company.

5. Why should we hire you?

This is your chance to show why working for the company is important to you and why you think you will fit in. Don't mention other applicants for comparison.

6. Are you a team player?

The answer should always be a yes then cite examples. You may mention situations where you were part of a group or organization, and the activities you've had that show you worked well with them.

7.Tell me about your ability to work under pressure.

You may say that you thrive under certain types of pressure. Give an example that relates to the type of position applied for.

8. How do you see yourself five years from now?

If you answer that you have not thought about it or you have no plans yet, the interviewer could conclude you have no vision and goals. Say something that is achievable but not too low as this could imply you lack initiative. It should be consistent with the objective on your resume and the skills you mentioned you have.

9. What are your expectations from this job/company?

You will be able to answer this question well through company research and self-assessment. Think as if you are already part of the company. You may say something like, "I expect challenging tasks."

10. Do you have any questions for me?

I need a high performance car. What is the difference between BMW M5 and BMW Alpina B5?|||Unlike BMW M's own M5 which has a naturally aspirated 5.0L V10, the Alpina B5 uses a supercharged 4.4L V8 which produces similar horsepower but has far greater torque.

Sorry, I don't know too much about alpina.|||the m5 revs high, the alpina has a 6speed and is more laid back aka softer suspension. different interior fabrics and woods, 4.4 liter bi turbo engine vs the v10 in the m5, slightly different spoilers, they both give you 500 hp but in different ways, think of it this way, the m5 is sporty and the b5 is the GT version of the m5 from the aftermarket guys at alpina.

Has anyone heard when the BMW 118d will be imported, if ever?

I drove a BMW 118d 5-door diesel around Ireland for 2 weeks and the mileage was unbelievable. I averaged about 45 mpg over the trip, and the car is a (relative) rocket. Most of the miles were city driving, so straight highway miles would have probably topped 50 mpg. Has anyone heard if BMW is planning to bring it over here?|||If by over here you mean the US, then unfortunately never. Most new car buying Americans are not smart enough to appreciate a diesel engine (especially a small one) in something like a BMW. I wish BMW would offer the 1 with a proper engine too.

What is the Yellow Explanation Point appearing in BMW dashboard?

I have a 2003 BMW 325i , and theres a yellow explanation point appearing in the dashboard sometimes and sometimes not , and writing service engine soon sometimes with the explanation point.

and its kinda making the car slower too same time .

any idea?|||don';t worry about it till the service engine light is on constanlty|||Better pull out your owner's manual and see what it says under "Instruments", "warning lights", or some such.|||If it looks like a triangle with a circle around it, it is the steering angle sensor. You may need to get it completely fixed which cost around 614 at the dealer or you may just need the ABC/DSC pressure sensor changed which is 173 at dealer also.|||Everyone here is wrong so far. That light is the indication to let you know that your DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is working. This system is meant to control your tires from slipping around corners and under hard acceleration. The flashing you see is a normal function.

In fact it really means that you're having enough fun in your bimmer to have the safety systems cut in.

The reason it slows you down is because it cuts power from the engine temporarily and usually applies your brakes as well.

The "Check Engine Soon" message has nothing to do with the DSC indicator. If this message continues to appear though, I'd recommend that you take your car to a BMW technician soon to have it inspected, in order to avoid a looming, high replacement cost.|||if the exclamation mark is inside a triangle this signifies that the traction control is working, ie you are trying to spin the back wheels and the car is cutting the power to them. this usually happens on mine if drive on wet bends full throttle with a bump mid bend, nothing to worry about, just try driving a little slower lol

How much is reasonable to pay to fit a front shock absorber to a BMW 525TD 1995?

How much is reasonable to pay to fit a front shock absorber to a BMW 525TD 1995

I have a new one (paid æ‹¢50)|||To fit a new shocker on the front involves releasing the main strut from the brake assembly. It is a garage job really. You would also need a pair of spring compressors to remove the old shocker.|||I think æ‹¢50 for a shock is perfectly reasonable - but you should always have them replaced as a pair on the front or rear, never individually.

Expect to pay another æ‹¢50 - æ‹¢150 to have each one fitted - there's a bit of work involved in replacing the front ones.|||Don't just do one! Always do the pair otherwise you will have uneven suspension at the front, dodgy effect on steering and braking.

Shop around, ask the quick fit type places over the phone. Some even have 0800 numbers.

BMW 525TD - Runs well on Bio diesel or straight vegetable oil (but you already knew that).

Where can I buy a diagnostic tool for BMW?

My cousin has a shop and he wanted to know where he can purchase an authentic diagnostic tool like the ones the BMW dealership mechanics use.|||You can get the european program on the Snap On Solus, Modis, or Solus Pro. The Solus Pro is like $3800 and the european add on is $1000. It comes with BMW 95 to current and all the adapters.|||Try ebay motors GOOD LUCK|||they might use a Snap On one which cost 1000's of dollars

How long will it take for the current BMW E46 M3 to be outdated?

BMW has released information on the all-new M3, how will the prices of the current M3 be affected? Has it already shown, or will it be more so when the new M3's already start rolling? How long will the E46 M3 still look "good" with the new E92 V8 M3's rolling around?

How "worth it" would it be to buy an E46 M3 as of right now?|||If you can afford one now, buy one. You won't save much by waiting a few years for the price to go down, and you'll definitely miss out on having the ultimate driving machine. The E46 will still look good 50 years from now if not longer, just like the 3.0 CSL still looks great, the M1 is still an iconic supercar, and how most people can't believe my E30 M3 is almost 20 years old. This Bimmer is destined to become a classic.

The August 2007 edition of Bimmer magazine is available at bookstores right now, and it has a very in depth M3 Market Update, going over current values and everything else you might want to know about E30s, E36s, and E46s.|||e30 M3's are still highly sought after. Buying an e46 M3 now will give you plenty of time before it is outdated.

Prices of them will come down because of the e92.

Get it! You'll be happy.

I have an e36 M3... a lot of people think that it is a brand new car when it is almost 10 years old.|||Outdated????

///M BMW's are ALWAYS collected and sought.

The only changes are modern upgrades in style and performance, but NO BMW is "outdated."|||If you really want it now, and you can't afford the new M3, then by all means get it. The new M3 does have a more powerful engine. And the body and looks are a lot more better looking then the current M3. It really all depends on what you like.

How to remove the termostat on a 95 bmw 325i?

My bmw is over heating, and i need to remove the thermostat. Does anyone know how, or has ne one ever did this before? I need explicit directions on how to do so.|||If you need exact directions on how to replace the thermostat, then you better have it done by a professional Automotive Technician. And You say your car is overheating Huh? Does the heater get warm with engine temp? If not, then it's not your thermostat. Late Model BMW's have plastic waterpump impellers that break off, Yes the car overheats like a stuck closed thermostat, BUT the one thing you will notice is that the heater doesn't blow hot air, Cooling system is full, Car overheats, heater stays cold. Broken water pump.

Take your car to a BMW mechanic or a ASE certified Auto tech and have your car fixed right.|||http://www.pelicanparts.com/BMW/techarti鈥?/a>|||Your car has a know problem with the water pump impellers breaking off. This is more likely the problem with your Bmw. You must be careful with this car the head gasket blows easily and the head warps. Also the upper radiator neck breaks very easily. This car also requires that the antifreeze be bled. The water pump is easy to replace it has four bolts that must be remove and there is two ears on the side of the pump that you put two bolts through to push pump out of block. The problem you will have is getting the fan clutch off to get to water pump. It requires a special tool. If i were you I would probably let a BMW tech do the job since it is very inexpensive to do the water pump. A reg tech not farmiliar with this car could tear up radiator, blow head gasket, not know how to bleed system. The car is different than most. Do not overheat this engine. You will be out 3,000 dollars. good luck

What is the insurance payout on a 1993 BMW 325is in Canada?

What is the "best looking" color combination for a 04 or 05 bmw 325i with the sports package?

I'm looking to buy a used 04 or 05 BMW 325i with the sports and premium package. I found quite a few. The only issue is the color combination. I like the silver with gray leather or the alpine white with gray leather. I also really like the gray with tan or black leather. My dad says the gray is a "dull" color. I wanted to hear what others thought. I don't think the 325i from 04 or 05 looks good in black because the car has black trim. Let me know what you think. Keep in mind this car will have the sports package so it looks a lot meaner than the standard 325i

Thanks!|||My Bimmer is silver with grey leather. It looks really nice and silver is so easy to keep clean. White and black both look dirty 5 minutes after you wash it, but some people aren't bothered by that. I'm just a bit of a perfectionist. If you do opt for a darker color like black, navy blue, dark green, burgundy, etc., go for a beige or light grey leather. Avoid black leather with dark colors just because the interior would get so hot in warm weather. I, personally, think white looks better with grey leather than it does with tan, but that's just my opinion. The only colors that I think go with black leather are bright red, silver, and grey. I do agree with your father though, grey is too bland for an exciting car like the 3series.

My favorite 3 combinations are as follows:

Red with black.

Silver with grey.

Dark blue with beige. (Many car enthusiasts and BMW fans say that Bimmers look best in blue.)|||Just so that you know this is an option, You can purchase with the exterior color you love, and have a custom DIY Leather re-coloring system created for the leather. There is a Lamborgini driving around Hawaii with the exact same Metallic Orange color done to the leather as the exterior because I custom created one-off leather for him to have re-upholstered- since then we have created products that allow you to retain the original leather and simply recolor it to any tone you want. You can see some testimonials of the furniture version of this process at http://www.diyleathersolutions.com/testi…

I hope you dont mind me butting in in your discussion- but I thought you might like to know that you could not pass up a car that is everything you want with low miles etc, just because the leather isnt the color you want.

Regards

David|||The Grey leather is not a very good choice, over the years, it starts to fade and wears more easily than tan or black. In my opinion, I would go for the Brown Leather that it can come with. It is the only leather that actually smells like leather and looks cool. If I had to choose any color available, I would go for Oxford Green with the brown leather. When I got one in 2003, I was plain and decided to get silver with black leather. If you want to make an investment in the future, go for silver because it may increase your resale value by a couple thousand dollars.|||I think any combination with tan leather look very nice, the leather looks somehow "classier".

We have a alpine white/ black leather 540 and it looks good.

I think your Dad is right and the gray car is dull. Silver I don't like either, there are just too many silver cars.

Black with tan would look very nice and sporty.

Black on black is very "manly". But the leather needs more mantainence I have experienced. Tan looks fresh and new more time...

good luck and have fun shopping.|||I think dark blue with tan interiors is very nice.

Also Black on black is cool.

Do not opt for the gray one!! what a boring color for such a nice car...your Dad is right.

White on black is also sporty and neutral enough.

No red please!!!!

The only red cars meant to be red are Ferraris. all else is hideous.

have fun|||my absolute favourtive its the red with black leather. Black on tan looks sharp too. Your father is right, grey is dull "/

How much would it cost to install the Professional Navigation system for my BMW 5 Series?

I have a 2005 BMW 525 but do not have any navigation on my iDrive. How much would it coist BMW to update iDrive with this system? Have any of you had your BMW's updated with it?|||NAV is stupid. Buy a map !|||It is possible but very costly. The current system in your car operates with the M-Ask unit. For nav you need a CCC unit and need to change the wiring harness and the screen as well. I have seen the parts sold on ebay from $3000-4000 as a package but you can probably souce everything separately for half that much. You will still need to pay for labor and installation if you're not going to do it yourself. UK and US systems are identical (except for the map DVD disk) and I saw a thread on a BMW forum last year that put the dealer quote in England at 3,500GBP.|||Usually a newer car like yours with an I-drive is NAV-ready.

Retrofitting one would not be a big deal except that the cost

previously mentioned of $500. is way down low and unrealistic.

The NAV dvd disc player is approximately $800., plus labor for installation, plus programming (of dvd player only most of the time,

but sometimes of the whole car).|||I was quoted a £3,000 estimate by my local BMW dealer for retro-fitting the original system to a 2004 E60. I guess you would get that done cheaper by an independent though, and even cheaper again if you bought the parts and did it yourself. I din't think it's worth retro-fitting, so I found one with it already fitted instead :)

Hope this helps.|||Less than $500.00 But of course you can just buy a universal navigation system instead of paying a little over $500.00 for one. Your call, your wallet... my sexiness... ooooh yeah...|||I think that if you already have iDrive, all that you should need is the unit that mounts in the trunk compartment. What is bank acquisition fees in a bmw lease?

I'm about to lease a bmw, and they mentioned bank acquisition fees as being part of the initial payment. Is this different from the dealer acquisition fee? if not, isn't it supposed to be part of the Capitalized Cost of the vehicle.|||There is only one acquisition fee in a lease and it's charged by the lease company or finance company, not the dealer. Some lease companies tell their dealers to automatically include it in the Capitalized Cost, where you might not notice it if you don't look. Other lease companies, more recently, have made it an "up-front" fee and include it in your "cash due at lease inception" costs. If you really don't want to pay it up-front, the dealer can add it to your Cap Costs. For more details, see the following article:

http://www.leaseguide.com/Glossary/acqui鈥?/a>

.|||An acquisition fee is something all lessors charge. In this case, it's either BMW Financial or the bank offering the lease. This is not something the dealer tacks on. This fee is part of doing business with the lessor and cannot be negotiated. It's also a separate fee and not part of the Cap Cost.

If the dealer adds on its own acquisition fee along with the lessor's fee, walk away and don't look back. This is clearly a dealer trying to cheat you. Give your business to a dealer that will treat you fairly.|||It's a dealer-invented fee. Tell them to wave it or you'll walk.

Where can I get speakers for a BMW 318i Convertible?

I have a 1997 BMW convertible that needs all of the speakers replaced. The rear speakers are components that have a tweeter and a 5 1/4" woofer. I believe that the front speakers are the same. I need to know where I can get replacement components or whether or not I can replace them with aftermarket speakers. Any help and links would be appreciated. Thanks so much in advance.|||Hi

If you want standard fitting speakers that don't require any modification and will look and fit just like the originals, you have two choices:

1) BMW

2) Kenwood

The Kenwood ones are the best, they are an exact fit and can be sources from any car stereo retailer or Auto accessory store.

I live in the UK and the Kenwood site here shows exactly what you need:

and

The ones you need (are the KFC-C1339ie, KFC-1361C and/or KFC-1351C)

Whilst it only lists the 4 Door and Compact, I believe that they also fit the soft-top but it's worth checking.

What can I use to clean a BMW interior?

Hello everyone, just wanted to ask if anyone knows the best way to clean the cream cloth interior of a BMW? I have in the past used interior shampoo but it just looks a bit mucky at the moment,Thank you!|||Hi ME, I have cream cloth seats too and I also have this problem. I find that my seats suffer badly with "water stains" from opening and closing the doors. I have tried conventional cloth seat cleaners and these are ok, but not great. I took mine to a professional car valet and asked for an interior clean. It worked great and the seats looking as good as new. I know that valets can be expensive, but have one twice a year and your car will look great for it. Don't forget that by doing this you are keeping up the resale value of your car - So think of it as an investment! Good Luck and let me know how you get on.....|||A product called "tuff stuff" is by far and away the best stuff you can get. I use it on all my personal vehicles and on all the vehicles at my shop. Is it worthwhile to have a maintenance contract or service contract for a BMW?

My 2003 BMW's warranty is about to expire. Is it a good idea to purchase one of these contracts?|||yes|||No..sell your BMW..buys soemthing else.|||definitely. go put a price on the services that are covered in these programs compared to the price of the program. It is a must.|||I went through this exact same question myself. Here's what I decided, but it was a decision based on my financial situation:

1) When the car was purchased the extended maintenance plan was also purchased (to 100,000mi). That was easy: I figured one additional brake job around 90k miles (almost $800 dealer price around here) and the big service at 60k (Inspection 2 -- about $1000 at dealer here) would cost me ~$1600 minimum, then there's the regular services (Inspection 1) added to that, etc. I paid $1100 for extended maintenance. I'll be waaaay ahead on that deal financially.

2) At 48k miles I recently purchased the extended warranty for $1250, which covers most of the car (although radio and interior/exterior trim, sunroof, mirrors and xenons, as well as "wear" items on suspension aren't covered as in the original new-car warranty).

Here's why I bought it anyway: the tranny on these cars cost $4500 to replace. Any part of the driveline is going to run a minimum $1000 to repair. I also have had two faulty oxygen sensors and a faulty muffler already replaced on the car. The O2 sensors were a $400 job each. The muffler was a $900 repair.

I don't work on my cars. So although I have yet to use the extended warranty it feels like "cheap insurance" to me in the event of a catastrophic repair (like tranny, or electrical harness, or VANOS, or steering rack, etc). Keep in mind the extended warranty is really focused on mechanical components, not the niggling electrical cr*p that tends to break on high-end cars.

And of course I'll dump the car at 100, 001 miles. This was my second - and last - BMW. They're great to drive, but they're hell to own. I'm going back to a Japanese brand.|||YES! I work at a car dealership as a service advisor and the extra cost is well worth it for the expensive-type repairs that higher mileage cars require...my 2 cents

also, if you get rid of the car soon after purchasing the extended coverage, those types of plans (if transferrable) are very attractive to prospective buyers

How much do you think a 92 bmw 325i would go for at the highest bid in CA?

Can you add smartphone integration to a bmw after you already bought it?

We just bought a BMW from the dealer brand new but the only thing missing that we want is smartphone integration. My husband and I both have iPhones and would like to add this feature. Is it possible to add it to our car now?|||Most likely. I can get a Bluetooth integration for my iPhone (or any other smartphone with Bluetooth) at my local BMW dealer - for my old E39. Bavarian SoundWerks has a good selection, as does BavAuto. Check the links below:|||Yes you can get the Retrofit Kit for the USB/iPod Adapter from your dealer. This is the part number for the 09' 335i - 65410427467 It may vary depending upon your year and model, so check with BMW or go to http://www.realoem.com and go to Audio/Navigation/Electronics Systems %26gt; Accessories and Retrofitting|||Well you could replace the OEM head unit to an aftermarket one that supports the Iphone.

But the BMW OEM looks good and works good.....

If you want blue tooth? Just buy an adapter, I think BMW makes one, and an adapter to play music from the iphone as well.

Carefull, half of the aftermarket doesn't work with the Iphone3g and beyond, due to apple changing stuff....|||No, you cannot ad it. But, worry not, the smartphone integration isn't really that great, i believe they only offer it to keep up with the Jonses. Even if you did get the smartphone integration, there is still a phone specific part you'll need from bmw.

How do I get a new key for a 2000 BMW 5 series?

I've lost all the keys of my car as well as title. I need a new key for my BMW 5 series (2000). What proof of ownership will I need to show in the dealership? Will they give me a key without first seeing the car or do they need the car? Is there any other place becides dealership where I can make BMW key? Thank you .|||You will have to get a key from the dealer. If you do not have a business relationship with them, they should require you to prove you own the car. If you have had them work on the car previously, they probably would only require a driver's license to verify you are the person who there records say owns the car.

If they do not know you or the car, they should require proof of ownership which would nornally be the title. If you have lost your title you need to get that replaced anyway.|||Go to the local BMW dealership with the VIN. You'll need to show the car insurance in your name with that car's VIN as proof.|||Yep I think you could get a new key from a BMW dealership. You will need proof of owner ship, like insurance documents, proof of purchase and so on. They might not need to see the actual car to begin with, but you'll need to know the model and registration number. And probably when you go in again to collect the key, they'll want to test the key to see if it works.|||I recently asked my BMW dealer what documentation I'd need and I was told you need two (2) forms of proof of ownership and $200 dollars for shipping and material.

If you're lacking some documentation, call your local BMW dealer for assistance.

How reliable is the Audi A6 compared to BMW 5 series?

im looking to buy either a 2007 audi A6 or a 2008 BMW 528xi. the audi has 55K miles and the BMW has 66 miles. the bmw costs about 1500 more. but i want to know how long the A6 would last and how long the BMW would last (how long will it drive well - mileage)? and one more question, are they both good in the snow? Thanks!|||Both cars will be very reliable provided they've been serviced properly to this point and maintained properly in the future. All wheel drive is good in the snow BUT NOT IF YOU DON'T PUT THE PROPER TIRES ON IT. All wheel drive doesn't cure stupid driving.

I know people with both Audis and BMWs that have well over 150,000 miles. As I said, take care of the maintenance and the car will take care of you. If you think you're just going to hop in and drive and never spend a dime on upkeep then no car will last.|||Audi A6 for sure, hands down. I personally think Audi鈥檚 are a better make, and they are known for 鈥榪uattro鈥? 4WD/AWD 鈥?which is the best in the snow. I wouldn鈥檛 worry too much about the mileage because the A6 will last a long time and will drive well too. I have owned Audi鈥檚 and they always keep their value. Awesome cars, great ride and look sweet too!

Here are more photos of the A6

http://www.boldride.com/ride/2008/audi-a鈥?/a>|||For snow i recommend the audi. All Wheel Drive is the best for snow. I personally love them both but for your situation I would say the audi a6 is your best bet. Both cars are pretty durable (with them both being luxury cars if they break a dealership fix is in mind) I would recommend you find out everything about both...but the audi for snow is my take on it.|||Audi A6 - Its comfort features include 7 arm dynamic styling like sport saloon, CD changer in the glove box, DSP sound system with 6 channel amplifier, 10 loudspeakers, adaptive light, eluxe automatic air conditioning, electrically adjustable front seats, multi media interface (MMI) infotainment system, radio operated remote control, multitronic gear system etc. Safety features that are available distinctly in this model are acoustic parking system (APS) front and rear, eletromechanical parking brake, automatic rain and light sensor system, pyrotechnic front seat belts, central locking system, serotronic power assistance etc.

I know my car is worth at least 14-15K$ and it has warranty. The BMW is listed for 12500$ and it says (brand new tires and free warranty to buyer).

And if I do trade in, would the dealer pay me the difference?|||im not sure the dealer will pay you the differnce, you might be better off looking for a bmw thats a little more expensive with less miles and just trading in ur mercedes and paying the little difference so u wont have to deal with the selling process.

http://www.goldenstatecars.com/|||Yes because bmw is better than mercedes|||dealers try to give you back no money or as less as possible.

try to sell it and then buy one of a lot or from an individual seller. when u have cash and wanna buy a car everybody comes down on their price but if u wanna finance or trade the never give you room for bargenning.

What is the lifespan of a BMW on the average?

I've been driving Honda's for years and have had great experience with them regarding the miles driven (usually 180,000 plus miles). I found a good deal on a BMW 325i but it has 116,000 miles on it. If the price is great would this be a good buy?|||mine has 122k and its still going strong. assuming its been taken good care of, the bmw engines can last 300k and up, in other words the engine will most likely outlive the car itself.

starting from2001, id say a 'great' price would be around $7k going up about $2k per year for that car|||Sure, there are plenty of them driving around still. If you take care of the car it's just like any other. Also there is no problem getting spare parts. You get a good engine and transmission. And unlike your Honda you get rear wheel drive.

And if you join http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/ at www.bimmerforums.com

you get all the help you would need. Currently they have 300,000 member and 20,000,000 posts.

Good luck with the buy.|||The lifespan on a BMW is just like any other brand of car... you take care of it, make all needed repairs (body and engine) and the car will/can last forever. If the car is in good condition and has been taken care of, I wouldn't worry about 116,000 miles.

What does it mean when a BMW 5 speed is stuck in neutral?

I'm thinking of buying a used bmw that is stuck in neutral. What might this be? Its a 5 speed manual.|||the problem in the gear box better you don't buy that car|||I'm gonna take a wild guess here and say maybe the transmission or a linkage issue.

How do I reset my 1995 BMW stock car stereo in order to get it to work?

I have a German spec 1995 BMW 315i with a stock cassette stereo. My battery died last week so I jumped it. Afterward, I noticed my radio turned on but wouldn't play. Do I need to reset it somehow and how would I do it?|||The instructions are written in the owners manual. There should also be a code written in there with a ball point pen at least that the way it was with mine.Otherwise go by the BMW dealer they'll probably do it for free if they're cool.It only takes a couple minutes to do.|||Yes you do need a security code for your stereo. You can go to any BMW dealership and they have a master code to unlock the stereo. Most of the time it takes less than a minute so they will not charge you. Some places might charge $25-$40 at most. You can call your local dealership to see if they will charge you.

How can i hotwire my 1990 bmw 525i e34, the ignition lock cylinder is shot?

I have a bmw 1990 525i and my ignition lock cylinder went out once then i had it replaced , then it went out again i want to figure out how to hotwire it so i dont have to worry about it going anymore and it will be alot cheaper. What color should I get my BMW 335i coupe in?

I'm ordering my BMW 335i coupe in a week or 2, but i was wondering what color i should get it in. Interior and exterior. I was thinking about Montego Blue with beige interior and wood trim. I also liked the saddle brown interior, but i don't know what exterior color matches with it. Any opinions/suggestions?|||Go to the dealership and sit in some models with the interior/exterior colours you're thinking about.

It's best to call ahead so they expect you and have someone at hand to show you around.

Do NOT decide on the day.

Go back at a later date then do it all again. If you choose the same combination again then that is really the one you like and should get.

If you're still unsure or change your mind then repeat the whole prcess.

When your buying a pair of shoes don't you ask for a variety of sizes and colours? Cars are like really expensive shoes.

Hey, if your spending many thousands on something, the least they can do is let you try it on for a few hours.

Afterall you can't change you mind when you get it, not cheaply anyway.|||Go with the montego blue and get the windows tinted. It will look beautiful. I promise that the looks of it will turn heads and you will feel so way cool about yourself.|||Montego Blue is really nice, much better in real life than the pictures on the web site.

Personally I went Titanium Silver with gray. I am not a fan of Beige interiors, although saddle is nice. The great thing about Silver is in dull weather (and at night) it looks wonderful, and silver hides the dirt like crazy. The darker colors show every bit of dirt or any scratch or stone chip you may get. But darker colors like the blue or red look nicer in the sun than silver.|||It all depends on what your heart wants! If you are a young individual, like me, you may may black on black. But, like mentioned before, go to a BMW dealer and experience your 335i - sit on it, look at variety of color combination and then choose. It's always a good idea to physically look, touch and feel something before buying.

Good luck and hopefully you will choose a color that you will love seeing every morning when you drive to work/school!|||Space Gray Metallic is a nice color. Its not too flashy but at the same time exudes both sincerity and professionalism.|||pink or orange with yellow interior|||I saw a Barbera red 3series with Saddle leather and it looked awesome. It's kind of a darker burgundy color. I bet that Montego blue would look good with it too, though. Personally, I think that darker colors look better on the 3series, however silver always looks nice but everybody and their brother drives a silver car. Take a look at Barbera red, I think you'll be pleased!|||this is very subjective. a dark paintwork over a light interior and a light paitwork over a dark interior could be a good combination so there could be some contrast.

personally, I like the Oxford Green Metallic with Beige interior and wood trim.

How many miles will a 1995 BMW engine run for?

I just bought a 1995 530i BMW with 200,000 miles, how many more miles can i get out of it?|||As long as this engine is properly tended to you could go for ever as long as you don't abuse it|||It depends on many factors, the way in which you drive. Smooth acceleration is always best for the engine. Regular maintenance, high grade engine oil, premium grade petrol, etc. If all goes well, it should last another 200,000 miles.|||250000 maybe if mantained good|||/ If you maintain the engine regularly, it will last nearly forever!

Maintaining the engine regularly involves no skimping. It means doing what needs to be done when or before it needs to be done.

Regular oil changes with the proper oil, tune ups, premium gasoline, and sensors kept in proper running order are key to a BMW that will last a lifetime.|||it's not like they have an expiration date. as long as it's properly maintained, it'll keep on chugging. I've heard of people getting 500k miles out of BMW engines with just basic service.|||My uncle had a mid 90's 5 series, he had it running on the stock engine up until 340,000. Then he decided to give it up. Some BMW enthusiast bought it on Ebay for around $2200!

How many miles does the average BMW last?

I know it has a lot to do with taking care of your car. How often you change the oil, and get it serviced. But it seems that most Hondas and Toyots can last past 200k unlike most Cevrolet and Fords last barely past 100k. I was just wondering where a BMW falls in the catergory of miles.|||I worked for a service department that serviced BMW's. Currently the oil change intervals are every 15,000 miles.

To date the longest lasting BMW I have seen had 200,000+ but it was a vehicle that needed maintenance often. It is all in how you drive your car and how you keep it.|||If you change the oil every 3000-5000 miles, a car can last up to 300,000 - 400,000 miles. This is not just true of Hondas and Toyotas. Of course, you need to take care of the car too and have it serviced once a year or so.|||Too many.|||I have a 89 with 166 thousand on it. You need to keep oil clean an keep an eye on the cooling system. One of my friends as an 88 with 330 thousand on it so if you take care of them most will go 200 thousand.|||1990 models have gone up to 200k miles with only minor service

but minor service of a european car hits you hard in the wallet

get a honda or toyota.. cheap parts, great mileage, last a long time! my friend's civic has gone up to 330k!|||In Europe it is not unfrequent to see a BMW engine last for over 300k. Maintenance intervals are becoming more and more rare, with oil changes scheduled every 30k or even 50k (fully syntetic lubricants).

As you said, the essential is that you don't try to save on spare parts and lubricants, as some try to do. I am not saying you have necessarily to buy BMW lubricants but if you go for something different, then go for a better lubricant rather than for a cheaper one.

I don't know where you are from but Japanese spares here in Italy cost much more than those, already expensive, of German cars. The RELIABILITY of japanese cars is often as good as or better than that of German cars (see Toyota/Lexus), but very often the style of their cars is poor for european tastes (Honda Accord, Civic, Toyota Avensis etc), although PRICE/EQUIPMENT ratio favours japanese cars (you don't pay the fashionable brand, like it happens with BMW, Mercedes, Audi, etc).|||2 many|||I don't know. sorry!|||Most engines are designed to last for 100K miles. But with good care of the car and a little bit of luck, you can go past that.

How do you take out a BMW 325i front wheel liner?

I have something wedged in between my front bumper and right wheel liner of my 325i. It might be some loose gravel or rocks because there is construction in my neighborhood. My hands are too big to squeeze from under and pull the object out. Does anyone know how to properly uninstall the right wheel liner of a BMW 325i so I can take out whatever is wedged in between my car? My car is pretty new. A used 2006 or 2007. I don't know if that makes a difference on how the wheel liner is put together.|||well it should be kind of obvious, where ever there are screws unscrew them and there you go, unless BMW has changed things from previous cars.

How do I use the computer on my new bmw?

I just bought a bmw today and i am wondering if there is a website that can explain all the parts and how to use the computer in it. It is a very nice 1993 bmw 325is. I've had it for a day and already love it. just need to find out how to use that damn computer. Please Help!!!|||The computer that you mentioned is probably the OBC (on board computer)?

You can always order a copy of the driver's manual from the dealership.

Also, check out BMW forums as such bimmerforums.com. Lots of info for E36s (which if your BMW model).

Lastly for DIY instructions, check out the E36 manual from Bentley Publishers.

How to get bluetooth installed in my 2007 328i BMW?

I just bought an 07 328i BMW. It says it has bluetooth capabilities. It has the phone icon on the radio and steering wheel. Can I install bluetooth in it? How much would it cost? Do I have to take it to a BMW dealer to get it installed? Is there anyway I could do it?|||The icons on the wheel and the radio are on all 3 series cars, regardless of whether it has the option. There is a kit available for around 700 at a bmw dealer.

What should I install in by BMW to make the music as loud as possible?

I want to install something in my BMW (in the trunk) to MAXIMIZE the volume so that people can hear the music from thousands of feet away. What should I install?|||Most people install an amp and sub(s) for bass extension. Replacing the HU, speakers and installing an amp for them is common as well.

See my site for more info http://spkrbox1.spaces.live.com|||I would suggest the following:

First, depending on the quality of the stock speakers, I would either leave them in, or if they are bad, replace them with some component speakers (covers high's, mid's, and low's and is powered) for both driver and passenger side. Rockford Fosgate is the company I would choose, but there are many other quality products from different companies.

The next thing to cover is the bass. There are many ways you can get big bass, but all of them include a cd player of some sort, wiring, an amplifier and a subwoofer with a box. At a minimum, other parts can be used for even better performance like higher grade batteries, and capacitors.

The most extreme subwoofer is the MTX Jackhammer, which is very overboard and insanely loud. It weighs a lot and is huge. It may not even fit in your trunk, and if it does, it might weigh down your car too much.

If you dont want to go that crazy, I highly suggest the JL Audio W7 series. They come in 10-15" i believe, and just 1 is enough. So to go to the extreme I would get two JL 12W7's.

The highest performance rockford fosgate subwoofers are also very very nice.

Good Luck|||o.k. if you want extreme loud, you first have to prepare your beammer for the electrical load it will need, anotherwords.. beef up its powerplant.. this requires a new High output Alternator. also it requires a deep cycle battery, and a "big 3" wire upgrade. so far that is around 500-600 bucks... now from there you want to get a sub, Pioneer holds the world record for SPL (volume) so that sub is the best you can get, and it is designed for a ported box, . you could get just one and it would be plenty trust me on this... besides at the price who wants to by two.

How often do you need to change the oil (synthetic) in a BMW 325i?

I bought a used 2003 BMW 325i and first had the oil changed (BMW Synthetic) about four months and 4,000 miles ago. When I first bought the car, the service interval indicator told me that I needed to change the oil, so that was pretty easy to figure out. However, it hasn't come back on yet (except to tell me that I need an inspection in 10,000 miles), which has me a little nervous. Can I trust the indicator, or should I take the car in every 3,000 miles like I would with a car running on regular oil? Also, how much do BMW centers in the US typically charge for this? My last oil change was free, but the next one won't be.|||The dealer recommends to change every 10,000. Do not wait that long - I tell all my customer 5,000 miles. I do not suggest you go over 7,000.|||every 10-15000 according to your driving and wheather (heat)|||When using sythetic oil, you have to change the oil and filter at the same intervals as petroleum based oils. Remember it’s not the oil that’s bad. It’s the sulfur contaminants you must remove from the engine to keep damaging acid from forming. Changing oil and filter from 3,000 to 5,000 miles is probably fine depending on the type of driving.|||Starting with the 1996 models of BMW, the oil change interval should be every 10,000 miles provided you are using one of the new synthetic oils (5W-30). Starting with the 2000 models of BMW, the oil change interval is scheduled for every 15,000 miles. A new oil filter is installed at each oil change. This is pretty well spelled out if you will get a later model 325 Owner's Manual. Nobody should be changing engine oil at 3000 mile intervals in the 21st century. A BMW INSPECTION I or II is a very different and more complex thing than an OIL SERVICE.|||That car has a host of things it looks at to tell you when to change the oil. It takes into account how you drive, distances, speeds, etc. The light will come on sometime between 12, and 15 thousand miles. However let me tell you why I believe you need to change it every 5 thousand miles. Take a grain of sand and place it in your hand add a small drop of oil and rub with your finger. Now wash up and repeat with synthetic oil. Do you still feel the sand? Oil does a more than just lubricate it cleans out the small particles that make it into the engine.

BMW started going to longer oil changes not because its better for the car bu because people wanted the cost of ownership down. Short term is not the bad but if you plan on keeping the car find an independent BMW specialist and change the oil more often. I have almost 200,000 on my car and know several with over 300,000.|||My advice, with synthetic oil you can go a little longer before you need oil change, but if you travel a lot then, you might want to consider having the oil change every 3,500 miles just to be safe. As far the price, it will be more expensive. I drive a Volkswagen Passat and the cost for the oil change is around $70. Also, you can go to the BMW dealer and get all sorts of info from the service department. Also, read the manual, it will be your best friend. Hope this helps!|||BMW recommends every 15k. The oils do not break down like earlier oils did. Now some will argue that dirt and other materials are a factor. This is true. So if you plan to keep the car for many years then every 5000 - 7500 would be fine. I don't see hardly any problems yet do to oil issues, key word (hardly). I have seen a couple but only a couple of how many cars I see a year and have been seeing more and more with 150k +.

Oil change at the dealer runs about $100|||Every 10,000 miles should be fine. No car needs the oil changed every 3,000 miles. This was a great marketing move by Jiffy Lube to get lots of people to change their oil more often. If you dont beleive me just look at your owners manual. I have an 01 325i and I change the oil every 8000-10000 miles. I also have a 95 delSol and it said right on the air box to change the oil every 7500 miles. Of course sand will ruin your engine if it gets in the oil, but how the hell woulod sand get in your oil in the first place. Regular petroleum oil is good for at least 5,000 miles and synthetic is good for at least 10,000 miles. Any one who tells you otherwise either doesn't know any better or owns an oil change business.|||i own a repair shop, and with synthetic oil you only need to change it every 8-10 thousand miles on it ,s it should be good, synthetic oil runs a lot longer than regular oil does, and doesn't need changed as often either,if your unsure as to if the light will come back on,you can have it changed just to be sure,i would leave the synthetic oil in there, using it is the best thing you can do for your car,it will make the engine last a lot longer ,but that's the best thing to do,good luck,i hope this help,s.|||once a yr or 15k miles When you start the car there will be a number displayed between the speedo and the tach as long as it has been reset it will start at 15500 miles then start to count down depending on your driving conditions it will determine how soon you will need to change the oil|||Go with Mobile1, make sure you change the air and oil filter each time to change the oil. And get OEM stuff buy the Mann filters from bmaautoparts.com. Then you are good for about 7500 miles but I wouldn't worry unless it goes past 10,000. This is for regular driving conditions. If you track the car or drive around a lot of dust it would be benificial to change out the oil earlier. Expect the dealer to charge about 100 dollars to change oil it often adds up because of all the little things they try to tack on.|||the point of synthetics are you DON'T have to change oil so often..If you beat your car change at 7500 miles ..if u drive regular 10,000 or more. Read your manual..

Is it possible to work at like a BMW dealership or something related with BMW?

How much does it cost to replace a bumper on the 1994 BMW 530i (plastic grey bumper)?

How much does an average BMW Client Advisor make in Orange County, CA?

I'm contemplating becoming a car salesman for BMW in Orange County, CA. If anyone knows the approximate range this demographic makes, it'd help me make my decision.

I understand it's a lot of hours, and it's hard work. I'm moving from one sales industry to auto sales, so commissions is not unfamiliar to me.|||BMW salesman (or client advisors) are still paid by commission.

Assume average BMW is about $60K and 3% commission - $1,800 per car.

Sell 5 cars a month - $9,000 a month or $108K a year.

If you're real good, you can make over $300K a year - just be prepared to pay $100K in federal and state taxes.|||All I know is they couldn't give me a BMW. Overpriced, heavy, hard to work on and ugly..

Is it possible to work at like a BMW dealership or something related with BMW?

Ok, I'm 17 years old, and I was wondering if I could like work at BMW, like do ANYTHING they could give me cause of my age. Does anyone know? Thanks!|||You could try your local dealer, but you would probably not have too many job opportunities until you at least have a high school diploma, which I'm sure you don't have yet - and any good job would require a degree and/or relevant experience. Maybe the dealer will have a job cleaning up in the service department, which perhaps could lead into an oil change guy, or something like that.

I also recommend you work on your English, start by not misusing the word "like" (which you did twice), and also using the word "cause" when "because" is what you meant. It won't serve you well if you have an interview and you say "Like, I'd really like a job cause I need like, money"|||Well sure you can. People work that. Go in and ask for a job sweeping up or doing anything they ask. Wash cars, take out trash, whatever. Make sure your enthusiasm shows and be persistent, but not a pest. If they say no, or not now, or you're too young, be persistent. Call the same person every 4 to 6 weeks and ask again. Mail a letter, not an email. DON'T CALL OR CONTACT THEM MORE THAN THIS! You'll be a pest. Also, apply at more than one dealership.|||yea, in college for internships with them, go to career opportunities on the BMW site, maybe you can find something there to do in the future.|||go apply???

How can I import a BMW 118d to California?

I am very interested in buying a used BMW 118d, and I was curious as how to import it, how much shipping would cost, and if there are any legal issues with it? Thanks!|||You can't. By the time you have paid for conversions, certifications and inspections to meet USA DOT and EPA specs, and posted bonds, you could well spend ten times the value (purchase price) of the car, your beard will be long and gray, and even then there is no guarantee you'll be able to keep it in the USA. Sorry, Charley...

How do I properly use the launch control feature in my 2002 BMW m3 with SMG?

I just purchased a bmw m3 with smg.

I heard that this car has launch control, a bit limited in US, but its still there. Does anyone know how to use this? I have the sport button, smg control, and a dsc button. Also have the paddle shifters, and am driving pretty good with them now.

Also, I understand that this may be bad for the tranny, but I still want to know how to do it.

Thanks to all!|||There are 2 drive programs for your particular car's SMG.

1) A-Mode, automated, from A1 (starts in 2nd gear for

snowy roads) to A5 (sporty)

2) S-Mode, sequential shifting, from S1 (relaxed dynamic)

to S5 (sporty), and as a special feature, S6 (super

sporty).

I think you are interested in knowing about S6 which is also called "acceleration boost". To use S6, DSC must be turned off, and the S6 program must be active. The shift lever must now be pushed forward and the accelerator pedal depressed. The acceleration boost is performed as soon as the shift lever is released. Further gear shifts are done manually.

Furthermore, there are 2 types of S6 boost. The "racing start"

and the "burnout" mode, both of which are extremely harmful to the clutch and to the whole drivetrain.

Depressing the accelerator slowly to the floor activates racing start. This means fastest acceleration without wheelspin (due to the computer comparing front and rear wheel speeds). Depressing the pedal quickly to the floor activates burnout mode after the shift lever is released. This can be dangerous since the rear of the car can made unstable due to extreme wheelspin.

Burnout mode can be bad not only for the car but also for the driver. Implement the same at your own risk (perhaps in a race track, or an empty rural airport?).|||There are several ways to initiate "launch control" on the older M-3 cars with SMG. One way is to sit in a wide open parking lot with lots of space and no traffic. With the engine runnning, clutch disengaged, first gear selected via manual gearshift, press gearshift forward against detent, rev engine to about 5000 RPM, release gearshift and give full gas simultaneously, then hold on for the launch of your life. Transmission failure, or any driveline component, (clutch, U-joints, or driveshaft) may be on your next inspection and repair bill. BMW does not warrant their vehicles against these kinds of activities.|||The best way to use it, is any way that does not include a sudden stop at the end. Remember driving does not kill. It's that sudden stop.

Is it possible to fit BMW buckets in a VS Commodore?

Based on BMW E36 regular buckets and rear bench, will they fit straight onto the seat mounts of a VS Commodore? Or will they need modification? And if so, is it difficult?|||They will need some modification as they are two different car makes (GM vs BMW), however it should be really cheap and very easy to do. Nice pick...BMWs are awesome cars.|||The Rear bench seat shouldn't be difficult to mount at all.. Because all you'll need to do is drill the appropriate holes in the mounts, so they match the BMW one. The front seats, however, will be a bit more difficult. I'd recommend taking the rails and everything out of the BMW, and mounting the whole thing in the commodore. This way you could again, drill holes to match (rather than try to match the rails the chair slides on). Keep in mind not to drill in the wrong spot, you might damage something on the other side... and make sure you fill up the unused holes or mistake holes with silicone or such, otherwise they may start leaking.

Another important note is that the seats do have an impact on the car being roadworthy or not, so contact your mechanic. If a driver's seat doesn't stay attached to the car, it's not very safe now is it?

Why do BMW reccomend a higher tyre pressure for the rear tyres?

For my rear wheel drive 2005 (55 reg) BMW 5 Series new shape - Bmw recommend 33 psi front and 41 psi rear. Why is this?|||The 5 Series has a slightly heavier rear axel weight with monster trunk lid, fuel load, rear passenger load, and possible trunk luggage. The wider tires (staggered) on the rear will spread the load significantly. I think BMW was trying for a 50/50 balance but could not always control the car's loading when the cornering was in an aggressive handling attitude. I hope you got the RUN FLAT tires off your car, too.|||1. You may have staggered wheel setup. The rear wider than the fronts.

2. BMW wants your car to be have more understeering.

A regular driver can react to understeering(that front end dive when turning), but not so good to oversteering(the rear end swaying out on a turn), so for safety, BMW makes it more toward understeering.

I adjusted mine to 34 psi on all four non-stagger wheel to have a neutral steering.|||No idea, but I think most do. For my little KA it is 27 psi front and 29 back. Similar was true of the car I had before....not exact psi but that the rear tyres where a higher psi than the front. Maybe it is something to do with the braking mechanism? Just a guess.|||1.The rear wider than the fronts. 2. BMW wants your car to be have more under steering. A regular driver can react to under steering(that front end dive when turning), but not so good to over steering(the rear end swaying out on a turn), so it's for safety.|||BMWs are rear-wheel drive and having more tire pressure in back gives you better performance and handling. Bimmers are a different breed of car. There is nothing like the way they ride and handle.|||Most likely for better traction. For the way normal people drive there cars, it will probably not make a difference if you just fill up all tires with the exact same pressure.

What is the best aftermarket stereo to put in a 02 BMW 3 series?

Was wondering about possible aftermarket stereos to install in an 02 BMW 325 that just doesn't look totally out of place with the rest of the car something that flows with the layout of the dash and all. Not needing gps or dvd playback just head unit suggestions. Thanks|||well..if i were you..i'd try the sony xplod...it has damn good sound...if you want, you can go for clarion....w/c we all know is notorious for not being user-friendly...but can give you beautiful sound....or if you don't want any flashy stereo on your dash, i suggest you stick to your business rds...hahaha...just kidding...|||check out crutchfield.com

How do I get the radio code for my 1986 325 BMW?

Just purchased 1986 BMW. I disconnected the battery and now the radio says I need a code to enter. I do not have owners manual. How do I get the code?|||you should be able to take it to your nearest dealer along with your proof of purchase and VIN number to the car and the dealer should be able to give it to you some dealers charge so might be an idea to ring them before you go|||call your nearest bmw dealer and they'll help u out

How do I tell what software version I have on my BMW 745?

I never knew to ask what software version I am running on my 2002 BMW 745Li. Can anyone help me find out how besides taking it into the dealer? Thanks in advance!|||Well, it's not that easy. We get software version updates almost every month or so. These apply to different years of production and models. Usually BMW will mail you a notification of an emission related update or if the vehicle is in the shop for a repair that needs coding or programming the shops computer then will check if any other control unit needs updating. A 745 can have up to 80+ control units. Only the dealer can do this type of work. But there has to be some type of problem before we will update the software on any given control module. It is not recommended by BMW to upgrade the software if there are no problems concerning that control module. These systems are pretty fragile and updating can sometimes cause other problems or kill a module.|||Slam it into a wall at about 70mph and the Software version will spit out of the cd slot.

tc|||You shouldnt have to take it into a BMW dealer, just call them, give them your make %26amp; model car and what year and they should be able to help you out.

What other models of bmw are interchangeable when it comes to a 2002 BMW 325i (sedan) driver door?

My driver side door is slightly bent and BMW refered me to a body shop. I would rather search around to see if buying a whole new door would be cheaper then having the body shop repair it. I'm curious if any other models/years of BMW have interchangeable doors with the 325i.|||Any E-46 (1998 - 2005 3-series) sedan (323i. 325i, 328i, or 330i) door should fit. The M3 doors in that same span might fit also.

Is a BMW 5 Series the right car for my 17 year old?

I'm looking to buy my 17 year old (soon to be) a nice car, please none of the "are you crazy" or "you have too much money". It has to be a nice car, he likes the BMW 5 series, would it be a good car for him? Any other suggestions? Must be BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, Lexus, Porsche, Audi or any other quality makes.|||I'll try a reply without the preaching!

Yes, a BMW 5 series is a fantastic car - beautifully made, reliable, even surprisingly economical for such a large car, they're also safe %26amp; secure.

Have it serviced at an independant specialist - BMWs require very little maintenance to stay on top form, and the mechanicals are surprisingly simple. A BMW dealer will absolutely rob you for servicing.

As for other answers, suggestions such as Ford %26amp; Mercedes are a joke - The Mondeo in particular has serious reliability %26amp; economy problems, and to suggest it's in the same league as a BMW is ridiculous to anyone that's ever owned both - me included; Merc just don't have the build quality %26amp; reliability they used to enjoy.|||No I am 16 and my dad just bought me a 6 series convertible, and I couldnt be happier with it. If he will take care of his car its worth it.

|||okaaay dis is weird cuz its da exact same thing with me IT has to be one of those brands....in the end i choose the bmw 545. so yea mayne the bmw 5 is greaat, i hpoing to get one nxt spring after winter passes. p.s i just turned 16!

|||The 5 Series is fantastic. Get him the base model one so he doesn't get too tempted with a powerful engine. The 528xi has all-wheel drive which is also great in the snow and ice (if you live someplace cold). I would not recommend a Jaguar because of their notorious reliability problems. Also, if you decide to buy him a BMW, which is a true driver's car, get him one with a manual transmission. He'll love it, I promise. I also think the Audi A4 would be a good choice. It's a bit smaller and more affordable, but still sporty and cool.|||Well yea its not jealousy, its just the fact that if you really

cared for your child you wouldnt be buying him a porche with 400+hp under the hood, because all teenagers want a fast car....

Just a bigger chance for him to get killed....

IF you were smart, you can still buy him an expensive fast car but i would take it to the shop first and get it governed down so he isnt able to hit the 160mph the porche reaches too.|||I think the best choice would be an Audi A3 it is small enough for him to get the feeling for driving whilst still possessing the qualities that you need. p.s. don't listen to the idiots on here that are jealous, it is much better to buy a quality first car than some deathtrap that's gonna end up costing a small fortune in spares and repairs.|||Man that is one lucky kid of yours. Its not jealously dude. But you are coming on Yahoo Answers to ask a question like that. If you have the money to buy your son an expensive luxury car, then you should have the brains to know whats a good car for him. Nobody is jealous but the truth is not everyone is brought up with a silver spoon in their mouth.|||new c class cheaper and more reliable. if you you have uber money, get the C63 amg. you know 450hp always good for 17 teenager. I am a tech at a Benz dealer right across the street from BMW and Lexus, We also house the Jag dealership in our building. I dont hold newer Beemers in high reguard my friends 540 broke down too many times to count. Same with the Audi's. Jag... nope they are just crap. Now Lexus is a great car, but when you think luxury what do you say in your head first... Mercedes. the rest of the line is very unreliable but the c class is the only one thats a really good sound car. to bad its the lowest of the line. you could wait for the new E class. Oh and there is the G wagon whick hasnt been changed for decades. very reliable. good luck. lucky kid|||A bmw 5 seies is a great car for a 17 year old. Its not a sports car so i dont think he will be racing it. its very dependable. BMW has some of the best warranties around. I wouldnt go with mercedes ( to much of an old person brand) porche are badly made cars i do not like them. Lexus is just a nice toyota. Get him a good german made car, the 5 series|||Teens + powerful car = trouble.

I've seen too many bad accidents involving teens to suggest anything better then a used 4-cylinder mid-sized car for a teen. He has to prove he can be responsible with a car first then reward him with a nice car later. Maybe when he is doing good in college.

Sorry, can't suggest anything over 200 HP for a teen to drive. |||How about a Lamborghini instead, no i got an idea, wait for the next bond movie and get him one of those.

There is nothing in the world he could have done to deserve that nice of a car at 17 year's old.

Spoiling kid's does them no good as a adult's|||Really, an M6 is a lot better car.

Just kidding. It's true - you are being a total idiot. How could you be smart enough to be rich but dumb enough to ask this question here? This will be one of those famous forum questions eventually.....|||I'm not sure why you are even asking. If he likes the BMW 5 Series, sounds like he gets what he wants, regardless of whether it's a smart buy or not. If I told you that Lexus was better, would it make any difference?|||hes a lucky lad, but i think bmw 5 series is to big (body wise) for him.

i think out the list the lexus is the best. he could move on to a bmw once hes add some experence in driving.|||i would so get him a lexus I.S 300 it is a very cool and safe car.. but any guy would love to have it. its sporty to. i am a car and truck freak! :D|||How about a Ford Mondeo, they're much better built that A LOT of 'luxury' cars nowadays.....And your son obviously won't have a clue about the value of money, will he?!|||One problem you may run into if you are buying used, repair work and maintenece can run into some big money|||yes|||Why such an expensive car?????????? Make your son get a job and buy it himself, or he won't take care of it. If he has to buy it, license it, and insure it himself he will take better care of it, than if parents buy it for him.

People need to stop giving their kids every damn thing they want. Make them get off their *** and work for it.

He needs a vehicle to get from point A to point B, so a car say $1500-$5000 area would be just fine.

You go buying a $20,000+ car for him and the insurance will be through the roof especially for a BMW.

Why does it need to be a nice car. Like I said above it needs to get him from point A to B. A Ford Escort or older model Toyota Camry, or a Honda Civic would do just fine.

Waste of money to buy a teenager a car worth more than $5000 because most likely in their time of they know everything they'll wreck the car anyhow.

Lexus is the luxury models built by Toyota, very reliable and good looking cars.

the rest are just over-rated piles of crap that cost a fortune to repair or replace when your son wrecks it.|||I've owned plenty of BMW's and they are heavy cars. I would say go for a 135i or 3series..the 5's are ugly... Also the 3series holds it's value well.. I would recommend the hartge m3.. It's more exclusive! At the end of the day, driving a heavy 5 series at high speed can be difficult..i was in my mid 50's when the e36 m3 came out and i thought i would drive it up to 140mph..the car got into a skid and i only just managed to recover the thing from a slide..and a serious accident..so the lighter ones are a better choice..you really have to fight the steering..ANY real high performance BMW owner will tell you that if they actually drive the car and don't just push it around town..and do only 55mph! Merc are posh taxi's! Lol. Even better than a GERMAN wagon is a jap car.. Like Acura or or honda..(same manufacturer) the rsx type-r is a seriously nice car..dc-5 in white or black. Get your kid some racing lessons if you go for a BMW as I doubt he is use to drifting on the m25 at circa 155 mph.. Nothing wrong with a lad in a nice car if he knows how to handle it..
