What is the Yellow Explanation Point appearing in BMW dashboard?

I have a 2003 BMW 325i , and theres a yellow explanation point appearing in the dashboard sometimes and sometimes not , and writing service engine soon sometimes with the explanation point.

and its kinda making the car slower too same time .

any idea?|||don';t worry about it till the service engine light is on constanlty|||Better pull out your owner's manual and see what it says under "Instruments", "warning lights", or some such.|||If it looks like a triangle with a circle around it, it is the steering angle sensor. You may need to get it completely fixed which cost around 614 at the dealer or you may just need the ABC/DSC pressure sensor changed which is 173 at dealer also.|||Everyone here is wrong so far. That light is the indication to let you know that your DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is working. This system is meant to control your tires from slipping around corners and under hard acceleration. The flashing you see is a normal function.

In fact it really means that you're having enough fun in your bimmer to have the safety systems cut in.

The reason it slows you down is because it cuts power from the engine temporarily and usually applies your brakes as well.

The "Check Engine Soon" message has nothing to do with the DSC indicator. If this message continues to appear though, I'd recommend that you take your car to a BMW technician soon to have it inspected, in order to avoid a looming, high replacement cost.|||if the exclamation mark is inside a triangle this signifies that the traction control is working, ie you are trying to spin the back wheels and the car is cutting the power to them. this usually happens on mine if drive on wet bends full throttle with a bump mid bend, nothing to worry about, just try driving a little slower lol
