How often do you need to change the oil (synthetic) in a BMW 325i?

I bought a used 2003 BMW 325i and first had the oil changed (BMW Synthetic) about four months and 4,000 miles ago. When I first bought the car, the service interval indicator told me that I needed to change the oil, so that was pretty easy to figure out. However, it hasn't come back on yet (except to tell me that I need an inspection in 10,000 miles), which has me a little nervous. Can I trust the indicator, or should I take the car in every 3,000 miles like I would with a car running on regular oil? Also, how much do BMW centers in the US typically charge for this? My last oil change was free, but the next one won't be.|||The dealer recommends to change every 10,000. Do not wait that long - I tell all my customer 5,000 miles. Remember it’s not the oil that’s bad. It’s the sulfur contaminants you must remove from the engine to keep damaging acid from forming. Changing oil and filter from 3,000 to 5,000 miles is probably fine depending on the type of driving.|||Starting with the 1996 models of BMW, the oil change interval should be every 10,000 miles provided you are using one of the new synthetic oils (5W-30). Starting with the 2000 models of BMW, the oil change interval is scheduled for every 15,000 miles. A new oil filter is installed at each oil change. This is pretty well spelled out if you will get a later model 325 Owner's Manual. Nobody should be changing engine oil at 3000 mile intervals in the 21st century. A BMW INSPECTION I or II is a very different and more complex thing than an OIL SERVICE.|||That car has a host of things it looks at to tell you when to change the oil. It takes into account how you drive, distances, speeds, etc. The light will come on sometime between 12, and 15 thousand miles. However let me tell you why I believe you need to change it every 5 thousand miles. Take a grain of sand and place it in your hand add a small drop of oil and rub with your finger. Now wash up and repeat with synthetic oil. Do you still feel the sand? Oil does a more than just lubricate it cleans out the small particles that make it into the engine.





BMW started going to longer oil changes not because its better for the car bu because people wanted the cost of ownership down. Short term is not the bad but if you plan on keeping the car find an independent BMW specialist and change the oil more often. I have almost 200,000 on my car and know several with over 300,000.|||My advice, with synthetic oil you can go a little longer before you need oil change, but if you travel a lot then, you might want to consider having the oil change every 3,500 miles just to be safe. As far the price, it will be more expensive. I drive a Volkswagen Passat and the cost for the oil change is around $70. Also, you can go to the BMW dealer and get all sorts of info from the service department. Also, read the manual, it will be your best friend. Hope this helps!|||BMW recommends every 15k. The oils do not break down like earlier oils did. Now some will argue that dirt and other materials are a factor. This is true. So if you plan to keep the car for many years then every 5000 - 7500 would be fine. I don't see hardly any problems yet do to oil issues, key word (hardly). I have seen a couple but only a couple of how many cars I see a year and have been seeing more and more with 150k +.





Oil change at the dealer runs about $100|||Every 10,000 miles should be fine. No car needs the oil changed every 3,000 miles. This was a great marketing move by Jiffy Lube to get lots of people to change their oil more often. If you dont beleive me just look at your owners manual. I have an 01 325i and I change the oil every 8000-10000 miles. I also have a 95 delSol and it said right on the air box to change the oil every 7500 miles. Of course sand will ruin your engine if it gets in the oil, but how the hell woulod sand get in your oil in the first place. Regular petroleum oil is good for at least 5,000 miles and synthetic is good for at least 10,000 miles. Any one who tells you otherwise either doesn't know any better or owns an oil change business.|||i own a repair shop,and with synthetic oil you only need to change it every 8-10 thousand miles on it ,s it should be good,synthetic oil runs a lot longer than regular oil does,and doesn't need changed as often either,if your unsure as to if the light will come back on,you can have it changed just to be sure,i would leave the synthetic oil in there,using it is the best thing you can do for your car,it will make the engine last a lot longer ,but that's the best thing to do,good luck,i hope this help,s.|||once a yr or 15k miles When you start the car there will be a number displayed between the speedo and the tach as long as it has been reset it will start at 15500 miles then start to count down depending on your driving conditions it will determine how soon you will need to change the oil|||Go with Mobile1, make sure you change the air and oil filter each time to change the oil. And get OEM stuff buy the Mann filters from bmaautoparts.com. Then you are good for about 7500 miles but I wouldn't worry unless it goes past 10,000. This is for regular driving conditions. If you track the car or drive around a lot of dust it would be benificial to change out the oil earlier. Expect the dealer to charge about 100 dollars to change oil it often adds up because of all the little things they try to tack on.|||the point of synthetics are you DON'T have to change oil so often..If you beat your car change at 7500 miles ..if u drive regular 10,000 or more. Read your manual..
