Is it nessasary to remove the head on my 1989 bmw 325I to replace the rocker arm?|||Just remove the valve cover ,then you will be able to see the rocker arms , it would be best to have the engine in time before you remove the rocker arm, because i'm sure that the sprockets (pulleys) have time marks on them that will need to be lined back open before yu install the rocker arm again.|||I am not real familiar with BMW engines, but every engine I have worked on, you remove the valve cover, AKA rocker cover, and access them there.

Hope this helps and Happy Holidays|||No. Remove the valve cover not the head itself...the valvetrain is in the head.
