What are the consequences for using regular gas on a BMW I328 2007?

I have BMW I328 2007,

%26gt; What is the difference between Regular and Premium gas?

%26gt; Why do BMW and other High-Performance cars require Premium gas?

%26gt; What are the consequences for using regular on my BMW and for other High performance cars?

%26gt;Does using regular on BMW's cause lower MPG? Or is that just a myth.|||Regular gas' octane is lower so it burns faster than premium gas. Premium reduces the chances of the gas "pinging" or "knocking" which is when the gas in a car's engine's cylinder spontaneously ignites which is bad.

BMWs and high performance cars need premium gas because their engines are designed for higher compression, which means a higher octane gas is needed in order to prevent "pinging" or "knocking."

Using regular gas in a BMW or other high performance car will cause damage to the cylinders of the engine.

Using regular gas in BMWs will not cause lower MPG. It will just degrade and damage your engine over time.|||The car will detune itself to run on regular.

Myth of getting higher mpg with premium.

It's $60 vs $63 per tank. Pay the extra for premium.

If you have detune the car and changing back to premium, you should reset the computer back to default. Otherwise the car will continue to run under the detune setting(Unless to stump on the accelerator a lot to get the computer to learn again).|||Low octane fuel in a high compression engine causes predetonation. If constant, the results are at least poor mileage as the computer constantly retards timing to prevent pinging, to at most upper cylinder and piston top damage.
