What are the differences in the different BMW series?

I know there is a 3,5,6, and 7 series.... what are the other ones?

What are the differences (in much detail please)?

I ALWAYS CHOOSE A BEST ANSWER - BMW ENTHUSIASTS ANSWER PLEASE !|||3 Series, is BMW's compact, entry level cars. The vehicles comes in coupe, sedan, and convertable. All 3 series have engine options, depending on the production year, the smallest and largest size engine will vary.

Some things you will see on any newer model BWM... 318, 323, 325, 328, 330, and the new 335. These number represent the vehicle class and engine size, i.e. 1.8l engine, or 2.3l and so on.

The 5 series is BMW's midsize sedan.

Offered in the entry level 525, with engine upgrades to all the way to a 4.8l V8. (540)

Both the 3 Series and the 5 series offer a vehicle from BMW Moterworks division, these are highly tuned high reving sports options, called simply the M3, and M5.

These cars offer high-hp output, racing suspension, and sporty stock body kits.

The 7 series is BMW's Full Sized Luxery cruiser, no M model is offered. However, this vehicle can be purchased with a V8, V10, and V12 option. (740,745,750,760)

Also, the L option is a longer cab, allowing for more leg room in the back seats for limo style transportation.

The 7 series also only comes with an Automatic Transmission, unlike its younger siblings which offer 5 and 6 speed models.

BMW also has a new 6 series ('06 +), which is full size two door option (convt. and coupe). This series comes with the same engine options of the 5, and some of the 7 series, and also has an M option, housing the new 505 hp V10, that also comes in the new M5.

The X model BMW's are the SAV's as they call them, the X3 being the smaller and the X5 the larger, but not by much. Both BMW SUV options would be considered compact SUV's and these trucks come with the same ability to select your engine size, 3.2, 3.5, 4.4, 4.8is(Sport Model). Once again there is no M package for the BMW SAV's.

The last model in the BMW arsenal is the Z series. The Z3, and the New Z4, the Z4 being a newer slightly larger upgrade to the older model. Each of these offers the same engine package options up to a 6 cylinder engines, and Also M coupe, and roadster models, which pack the M3 engines into the z body.

If you are looking to get your first BMW, i'd start with a 330 Sedan, you will get a new appritiation for the concept of driving enjoyment, as these cars are built to handle the most adventurous roads. GOod luck.|||simplistically put

3 is cheaper and 7 is dearer

then the number tells you more detail like the engine size|||3's look the best.|||X3- SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) it is the smaller SUV of the two (X5) it has many features and alot of space.

X5 - SAV (Sport Activity Vehicle) it is a luxurious SUV that will turn heads everywhere, it is roomy and comes with a 3.0 or 4.4 trim option

M3- The Fast- "Suped" up 3-series that is very expensive, but really cool.

M5- The Fast- "Suped" up 5 series that is also very expensive that runs about $89,000.00.

M6- The Fast "Suped" up 6 series that is VERY VERY VERY Fast- and expensive that runs around $109,000.00

Z4-m- is the smaller convertible that comes in a coupe and or convertible that is expensive but really neat to see on the road

BMW Alpina B7- which is the 7 series which is "suped" up and is a limited edition/ i believe.

If this didn't help, which I hope it did, check out http:///www.bmw.com and it will help you unto your hearts content.

Ok, Now the differences between the cars is the 3 series is sporty but not luxury where the 7 series is probably considered the most luxurious vehicle in the BMW line/ and probably the whole Automotive industry. The Difference between the X3 and the X5 is the X3 is smaller, the X5 is bigger the X5 is more luxury but their BMW's so they are nice. The M's are BMW's way of giving you the AMG on the Benz, and R from the Jaguar. The Z4 is a convertible or coupe, but it is self explanatory the convertible (top down) the coupe (windows down)

Good Luck!|||What's the REAL question? Are you looking for an education or a buying decision? Too vague a question|||With BMW platform production the Series refers to the platform or body type, the number refers to the engine/ commonly engine size.

Series 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, X, Z, %26amp; M

Engine 318I = 3 series 1.8liter engine, I = fuel Injection.

BMW originally started out building motorcycles, which they still do and allot of this mentallity floats over to the car production. BMW made a few series of cars after the war that were powered with motorcycle engine but I do not remeber there names.

I do not know how they cam up with the series identities.|||You have got the answers. But sometimes the BMW brings out the limited edition and special editions in above classes.

This special editions and limited editions will always look a bit different but performance the same..supreme technology I would say.|||And you all forgot the failed 8 series semi-supercar

the high the number the more powerful or more luxurious (in the case of the 7 series) generally the even numbers will denote a coupe version, the odds will denote a 4 door sedan/saloon/wagon|||Basically:

3 - most affordable, entry-level: the sedan, coupe, and new hard-top convertible.

5 - All sedans, 528, 535, 550

6 - high-end luxury/sport models...coupe and convertible, basing roughly around 75k

7 - the flagship sedan. Premium everything. V12 engine. This is the best sedan for BMW, and is even better then some Mercedes-Benz, in my oppinion.

X3 - Basically, the SUV (really called SAV, sport activity vehicle) for the 3 series.

X5 - the SAV for the 5 series

Z4 - two-seater roadster or coupe.

M - the 5, 6, and Z4 models, all in a much more powerful form, better engines, different designs. M3 is suppost to come out sometime within a year or so, in sedan and possibly coupe? no one rele knows.
