How to reset the radio code on a 1989 BMW 535i without the code?

We had to unhook the battery on our 1989 BMW 535i and now the radio needs a code to deactivate the anti-theft security feature. We bought this car used and do not have the code. Is there a default code that will allow us to use the radio?|||There should be a blue and white credit-card sized Radio Pass card in the paperwork you have for the car, which has the code on it.

If you don't have that, call or visit your BMW dealer with your VIN and proof of ownership, They'll be able to look up the code for you.|||there is an id number in the back of your radio with the code bmw will need to retrieve your radio code. you'll need to remove the radio. there should be two symmetrical clips on the right and left hand side of the radio which you'll need to open with a small flat head. then use the screwdriver to take out the screws underneath them. this will remove your radio. then remove the radio and retrieve the radio id number and call it in.|||You can't reset anything. You need the code. With the serial number I can get a code in just about 2 mins. Ya pretty much have to pull the radio out to get what you need to get the code. Now a days when I have to deal with an old POS code radio I just pop in a cheepo CD player thats better then the Stock radio any day..|||the code is written usually on the inside of either the handbook or the service book or the radio manual if you have any of those, also on a card in the glove compartment, sometimes also on the radio itself otherwise its a dealer job
